Yamato "Matt" Ishida (石田 ヤマト Ishida Yamato?) is a character in the anime series Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02 and Digimon Adventure tri.. He is a DigiDestined, partnered with Gabumon, and the bearer of the Crest of Friendship. He is the older brother of Takeru "T.K." Takaishi. Matt starts as a secretive loner with a cool demeanor. He is mature, thoughtful and level-headed, and more likely to think things through than charge head-on. He is a deeply caring person who will do anything for a friend and is very protective of his loved ones. He is prone to second-guessing and self-deprecation when he cannot protect others—his self-worth hinges on his ability to be a good friend. Unlike Tai, who is more willing to look at the "big picture", sometimes to the detriment of his friends, Matt always tries to focus on the good of his small circle of friends. As a teenager, he is more laid-back and easygoing and is more willing to support his friends risking themselves against enemy Digimon. However, he still reacts strongly when his friends are under pressure, such as when the news depicted the team's Digimon as monsters, and Tai became reluctant to defend their reputation due to fears about possible casualties. He is also a good singer. Matt's younger brother, Takeru "T.K." Takaishi, is also one of the eight DigiDestined, but their parents are divorced and so they cannot spend much time together. He is very protective of T.K. and often acts harshly when T.K. is in trouble. After their adventures in the Digital World, their relationship becomes closer, and Matt trusts T.K. more, acknowledging his burgeoning independence.
Matt has a French grandfather, making him and his brother T.K. at least 1/4 French.
When Gabumon had vanished from the human world along with the other chosen children's partner digimon it wold not be the last time Gabumon would see Yamato. He knew that deep in his bones at the very least. They had been separated before after all. This time though he was still able to digivolve freely because of the solidified bond he shared with Yamato. He didn't know how long it would be until he saw him again but he trusted that it would be soon. Gabumon had never told Yamato this, but he had kept the harmonica that Yamato seemd to have dropped and forgotten about in the digital world on his first trip.
After all they had been through the abrupt separation because their time and power was simply up had traumatized Gabumon and he msised his partner dearly. Recently though he had assisted the Royal Knights along with Agumon in protecting the Digital World from strange digital life forms called Eaters. which hailed from a universe adjacent to Yamato's own. Not only that they came from a man made digital world called EDEN. Now he was safe though watching as a digital wave opened a rift into Yamato's world. Finally they home.
Soon he would establish a connection to Yamato's digivice causing it to beep and display a 13 bit sprite of omnimon. Gabumon wanted to let Matt know that he was coming home... if he could figure out where home was now. As Omnimon he soared through the skies and landed in Shibuya... luckily nobody had noticed him. Omnimon would split into it's smaller file parts. Being Agumon and Gabumon and start their search for Matt and Tai at some of their old haunts like the diner they would often meet at to discuss strategic plans. He would hope the digivice would lead him to the two digimon easily.
