Tsukiko Nekomura was born on a full moon in December in the city of Yuki. While a surprise baby, Mamoru and Kohana Nekomura, and their son, Akihiro, welcomed the girl infant with open arms. Ever since she was little, she had taken a liking to gymnastics and bojutsu, and she started learning both right away at age five. However, about over a year later, her dreams would be temporarily put on hold. She and her family were in Tokyo visiting the area when a madman with an illegal firearm started a shooting spree. Her family was okay, but Tsukiko got hit in the lower back, and she couldn’t move her legs. After being taken to the hospital, the Nekomura family would face devastation as Tsukiko became paralyzed from the waist down due to her injury. Thinking this was the end for her, she started suffering from childhood depression. Due to her depression, she was refusing to eat or drink, so she had to stay in the hospital. Her family and the medical staff did what they could to brighten her spirits, but their efforts weren’t enough. In an attempt to combat this depression, she tried practicing and playing her grandmother's shamisen she was given in hopes it would help her. A year passed before a light blue-haired blind woman by the name of Kioku Mizuno – whom Tsukiko called Mrs. Mizuno – would mistakenly enter Tsukiko’s hospital room. The two of them would chat, soon coming to realize that they had something in common – they both desired something the other had. Tsukiko could see, but Mrs. Mizuno could not. Mrs. Mizuno could walk, but Tsukiko could not. Before departing, Mrs. Mizuno gave Tsukiko a small bouquet of Forget-Me-Nots, which would become a favorite of hers over time. They’d write to each for about a year before the letters stopped a year later. She would come to learn that Mrs. Mizuno and her husband would be killed in an accident, their son being the only survivor. Upon receiving the last letter from Mrs. Mizuno before her passing, Tsukiko opened it, and what would usually be pretty detailed only had one word written on it: “Live.” Tsukiko would finally decide to stop feeling sorry for herself and asked the doctor if there was a chance of her walking again. Albeit slim, she took it as a glimmer of hope and decided to work hard in learning how to walk again. After three years of hard work, on her eleventh birthday, she was able to walk on her own. Once released from the hospital, she went back to school and even went back to learning gymnastics and bojutsu. Now ending junior high and getting ready to set foot into high school, Tsukiko continues in gymnastics and aims to participate in the Olympics. She does have a backup plan, of course. She also continues practicing bojutsu while enjoying school sports games during her spare time. Her depression does creep up on her here and there, but it’s minor since she most of the time bounces back. She still plays the shamisen, and even started playing the koto (aka guzheng) and the electric guitar.
