Monkey D. Luffy, also known as "Straw Hat Luffy" and commonly as "Straw Hat.” She is the founder and captain of the increasingly infamous and powerful Straw Hat Pirates, as well as one of its top four fighters. Her lifelong dream is to become the Pirate King by finding the legendary treasure left behind by the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. She believes that being Pirate King means having the most freedom in the world. After her invasion of Totto Land and actions against the Yonko Big Mom, she is currently considered by the global press to be the Fifth Emperor.
She is the daughter of the Revolutionary leader Monkey D. Dragon, the paternal granddaughter of the Marine hero Monkey D. Garp, the sworn sister of late "Fire Fist" Portgas D. Ace and Revolutionary chief of staff Sabo, and the foster daughter of Curly Dadan.
Luffy has a worldwide reputation for causing trouble, challenging the Shichibukai, the Marines, and the Yonko, additionally committing felonies and actions which were deemed threatening by the World Government. Furthermore, in the majority of these confrontations, he has emerged as the victor. She has gained a reputation for being "reckless" and, in some cases, "insane", after causing an incident in Enies Lobby, assaulting a World Noble at Sabaody Archipelago, entering and escaping from Impel Down (while indirectly causing a large-scale riot in the process), and joining the Battle of Marineford. She is, therefore, infamous for being the only known pirate to not only deliberately attack the three most important government facilities, but also escape from all of them alive after facing incredibly powerful opponents in each one. The additional fact that he punched a World Noble with full knowledge of the consequences, as well as her heritage, has caused Luffy to be labeled as a "Dangerous Future Element", earning the wrath of Fleet Admiral Sakazuki and Marine Headquarters.
At the beginning of the Levely Arc, Luffy's achievements were compiled, greatly inflating her infamy, which was already immense to begin with. This includes her relationship as a sworn sister to both the late commander of the second division of the Whitebeard Pirates and the son of Gol D. Roger, Portgas D. Ace, and the Revolutionary Army Chief-of-staff, Sabo; the fleet that unofficially formed under her; the infiltration operation of Big Mom's territory, Totto Land, where she defeated Sweet Commanders Charlotte Cracker and Charlotte Katakuri, attempted an assassination on Charlotte Linlin herself, destroying her castle (unintentionally), and created a prompt alliance with Germa 66, the Sun Pirates, and the Fire Tank Pirates before escaping after the assassination had failed. Though her capabilities were slightly exaggerated by the press, her achievements were great enough for her to be officially titled the "Fifth Emperor of the Sea".
These acts, among other things, have given him her current bounty of Beli. png1,500,000,000. Having had a bounty of Beli.png300,000,000 prior to her arrival at the Sabaody Archipelago, Luffy is one of eleven rookie pirates who simultaneously reached the Red Line with bounties over Beli.png100,000,000, a group which would go on to be referred to as the "Worst Generation".
Her inspiration comes from a crew of other pirates who used to visit her island when she was little, the captain of which was "Red-Haired" Shanks. During one of this pirate crew's visits, she accidentally ate the Gomu Gomu no mi, a type of Devil Fruit that made her body like rubber. The catch to having these powers is an inability to swim: all those who eat a Devil Fruit will drown if they fall into the ocean. She is the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates (named for the straw hat Shanks had given her the last time they'd met), as well as one of it's four strongest members alongside Roronoa Zoro, Sanji, and Jinbei. The world government views Luffy as a threat, (as she is a pirate, current offender who punched a Celestial Dragon after Fisher Tiger and the son of the Revolutionary Dragon, after all). She is also part of the 11 troublemaking pirate rookies and alongside with her archenemy, Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard), called the Worst Generation. After escaping Big Mom's territory, she was considered by the World Economic Journal as The Fifth Emperor among the Yonko.
At age 7, after the Red Haired Pirates left, Luffy was trained brutally by her grandfather, Garp, who tossed her into the bottomless ravine, left her in the jungle every night and tied her up with balloons to send her flying in the sky as a result to become a strong woman despite of young age. Luffy was left to train with her brothers, Ace and Sabo. The first pirates they've been fighting was the Bluejam Pirates. After Sabo gone missing due to the World Noble shot him as a result of this hatred toward the World Noble before she punched one of them in Sabaody Archipelago. At age 14, after Ace's departed, she trained for 3 years to control her devil fruit powers before she departs to become a pirate.
She has immense healing capabilities and an extremely fast recovery rate. In Impel Down, when her natural healing abilities were boosted by Ivankov's healing hormones and further driven by her will, Luffy was able to not only survive the excessive dose of Magellan's deadly poison but also managed to overcome the poisoning within less than a day, a feat which Ivankov noted to be more than just a miracle. In Whole Cake Island, despite being on the verge of death and being brutally injured by Sanji beforehand, she quickly regained all her lost stamina and energy after eating Sanji's bento and was completely unfazed by the serious injuries she had suffered beforehand. She also regrows a missing tooth instantly after drinking some milk similar to how Brook healed his injuries. Even her wounds from Kaido recovered after working, eating and sleeping for few days even though with Sea Prism Stone shackles draining her devil fruit ability but still retained her strength and Haki.
Luffy also has no problem with other people stretching and playing with her rubber body, however, she does get a little irritated if they are doing so while she's in the middle of eating.
Luffy has shown to admire heroes, though she has stated vehemently that she really does not want to be one, her reasoning more-or-less translating that the definition of a good hero is to be entirely selfless. Ironically, many of Luffy's actions are mostly selfless, with her selfishness mainly revolving around her gluttony and her thirst for adventure. This trait leaves everyone she meets with to think she is some kind of hero, but not by her own design. However, she is easily convinced by Jinbe for his plan of becoming a hero of the Fishman Island with an agreement of meat.
Luffy approaches situations with a carefree attitude, almost never taking anything seriously. In spite of being captain, Luffy doesn't take her duties very seriously, never being harsh or enforcing standards on her crew. While Luffy can be serious when it comes to fighting or personal matters when it comes to loyalty, Luffy would rather have fun or relax such as enjoying banquets. Luffy would even have one even in personal situations, as Luffy cared more about the banquet at Punk Hazard much to Law's irritation. Luffy also doesn't appear to take conflicts with others seriously either, as when Judge regarded Sanji's emotions as a failure, Luffy simply thanked him for helping them escape much to Judge's frustration. This attitude tends to get on her crew's nerves, contrasting on their focus on personal and serious matters, mainly with Nami, Usopp, Zoro, and Sanji.
Luffy is also highly optimistic. She always sees the bright side of situations or anything that goes wrong, and takes matters with a smile and an upbeat nature. She even enjoyed having people join her crew as Luffy was eager to accept Sanji's bride-to-be as part of her crew but only if Sanji returned himself. This attitude also tends to annoy her crew, mainly with Usopp and Zoro, in contrast with their pessimistic and serious attitudes respectively.
Luffy has black shaggy hair, round black eyes, and a slim muscular build. She is renowned for her trademark straw hat (from which she gets her nickname "Straw Hat Luffy"), which was lent to her when she was young by the legendary pirate captain, "Red-Haired" Shanks, who in turn received it from Gol D. Roger. She wears short, blue trousers with cuffs, sandals, and a sleeveless red vest. Luffy also has a scar with two stitches underneath her left eye, which she earned by stabbing a knife under her eye to show Shanks that she was tough and not afraid of pain. She was severely wounded by Akainu in the Summit War of Marineford, leaving a large X-shaped scar on her chest.
After those two years, a few things have changed. Luffy wears a long-sleeved red cardigan with four buttons (which shows the X-shaped scar covering most of her chest she received by then-Admiral Akainu), with a yellow sash tied around her waist, somewhat reminiscent of Gol D. Roger's outfit. She has grown slightly taller and is shown to be significantly more muscular due to her training. During her fight with Sanji, Luffy loses one of her top teeth after being struck by a Diable Jambe Joue Shot directly into her face. However, it grew back after she drank a bottle of milk.
Her breasts have also grown much larger/rounder similar to Nico Robin's, but apart from this, her appearance has not changed much, save for the fact that both her body curves and hourglass figure have become more pronounced.
